Fro Inspiration…Pondering Success…

I have been a little downcast of late, wondering how and why some people ‘make-it’ in life.  Is it the stars, luck, God, good networking ability, likeability – what? what is it that causes some individuals, even generations of families to prosper, financially, relationally, even spiritually?  What is the secret of success? Is it possible for someone who hasn’t had the greatest of starts to move from one realm to another? Is it really who you know as opposed to what you know, and then how do you manoeuver yourself in such a way as to connect with the right people?

These are the questions that I often ponder.  I’m always in pursuit of that ‘magic’ ingredient, or the ‘secret’ to success.  Like you, I have collected many books, read heaps of articles, spouted, repeated, positives statements, prayed, quoted bible scriptures, and posted quotes everywhere – but am I further on?

Some may say yes I am, considering where I’m coming from; no not abandoned by my parents or abused in any way – thank God –  but I have had setbacks beyond that of the ‘average person’ and foundations, although loving, working class to the hilt!.

Don’t get me wrong….like so many people I just want something different from that which surrounds me.  That doesn’t mean that I think I’m better than anybody ( as many seem to think you are if you want something different to your peers), no – I just want to experience more of what life has for me beyond exotic holidays, or a 3 bed semi in the suburbs.

As a christian, the easiest thing to say to myself is ‘hope thou in God’, for he is always what I need, everything that I need, everyday that I need it – but is that enough?  Generations of christian have remained in poverty, generations of christians, died without fulfilling their dreams, generations of christians have failed, and failed again….The ‘heavenly’ brigade will be ‘oh so’ dismayed with my lament – I’m letting down the side – to err, to why, to how, is to doubt – but is it?

You may ask how is this inspirational? but I believe as we pursue , consider, ask, even lament the nature of ‘life’,  we become inspired.  In fact it’s through my lament that I came across this quote or rather formula, from a very successful business women, who in her  time, had more ‘stacked’ against her, than I ever had or ever will:

“Tenacity and perseverance, faith in (oneself) and in God, quality products and “honest business dealings” are the elements and strategies, to ‘my’ rags-to-riches ascent. There is no royal flower-strewn path to success….if there is, I have not found it  for if I have accomplished anything in life it is because I have been willing to work hard.” (emphasis mine)

Who is the women of whom I speak? Madam C.J Walker.  Those that know your history will know who she is, but for those that don’t, Madam C.J Walker was one of the first self-made African – American businesswoman to succeed in the…. you guessed it…. hair-care industry.   When I stumbled across this today, I was ever so gently encouraged, that someone like me, from humble beginnings, determined in her heart to make it through nothing more than hair care formulations –  and she did.

So it seems then, that  the ‘secret’ of success that I often consider,   doesn’t lie in one single thing or a special ingredient, rather a combination of things all working  together and towards ‘one’ common goal…like  Madam C.J Walker said – “there  is no royal flower-strewn path to success”…..It will never be a bed of roses….

  1. To LOVEFRO,

Madame C.J. Walker is truly an inspiration because she deeply cared about and uplifted the people of her race. She not only shared her wealth but she also shared her knowledge by teaching thousands of women (Walker Agents) how to use and sell Madame Walker products to support their families and become financially independent.

I believe that as members of the human race, we will all experience “setbacks” at some points in our lives. I think Madame C.J. Walker interpreted the hard times of her life as “challenges” or “obstacles” that she believed could be overcome with faith and hard work.

This may come as a surprise to you but Madame C.J. Walker’s historic company still exists today and has never stopped manufacturing all of the original hair oils! Anyone who visits our website at http://www.madamewalker.net can view and purchase the full product line.

To promote the entrepreneurial spirit that Madame Walker exemplified, the website provides individuals the opportunity to become a “Walker Agent” and sell Madame C.J. Walker products. By clicking on the “Find A Distributor” tab, you will see agents located in the United Kingdom, France, Bahamas, and the United States.

September 2011 marked the Centennial Anniversary of the incorporation of Madame C.J. Walker’s historic company – doing business today as Madame C.J. Walker Enterprises. On September 24th, 2011 we commemorated this event with the “Tracing the Footsteps of a Legacy” 100th Year Celebratory Walk. You can visit our website to view the Souvenir Program.

The website also contains valuable information about the stock / asset sale (including the ability to view the stock certificates) and Raymond Randolph’s purchase of the original Madame C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company in 1985 from the Walker Trustees in Indianapolis, Indiana and how the Randolph Family (wife Joyce and daughters Vivian, Angela, Stephanie) continues to keep Madame Walker’s true legacy alive.

Due to our ownership of Madame’s historic company and the historical documents and memorabilia of the company, the Randolph Family can provide the most detailed and historically accurate information about Madame C.J. Walker and her company by calling toll free, 866-552-2838, by clicking on the “Frequently Asked Questions” FAQS tab of our website, or by going to the contact us page of our website.
